An Alloy Steel Threaded Flanges are similar to slip-on flanges in outline but the bore is threaded which helps the assembly to work well without welding. These threaded flanges limit their application to relatively low-pressure piping systems. This flange may be welded around the joint after assembly but it is not considered a satisfactory method of increasing its applications. The most popular threaded flange range is ½ inch to 6” nominal pipe size. The amount of additional machining and labour hours which go into producing a larger diameter threaded connection make them less popular than other types of flanges. They work well where connecting and disconnecting from time to time is required. Its primary requirement is to assemble and disassemble the connection. A threaded flange connection is generally required when a male NPT pipe connection is utilized and the media in question is highly reactive or explosive in nature which is why threaded flanges are commonly used in API oil-field service. These threaded companion flanges are widely used in highly combustible industries and other fields which are reactive or explosive in nature.
