The flange’s strength is increased by the inner weld. Socket weld flanges made of carbon steel A105 are frequently used on high pressure pipe systems and pipes with smaller diameters, ranging from 1.27 to 10.16 cm. Socket-weld flanges made of carbon steel have a number of benefits. First is effective in high-stress, small-scale situations. Its strength is comparable to that of a slip-on flange, but its fatigue strength is 1.5 times greater. These are less likely to leak.For pipes with socket welds, beveling is not required. Joints that are butt-welded are simpler to install and don’t require any additional machining. Internal fractures in flanges can lead to crevice corrosion. These flanges have two welds, which boost their durability but make installation more difficult. Due to the increased use of welding, it is commonly practiced—though not advised—to only weld at the hub of the flange.
