Flanges of the Weld Neck Series A are thicker, heavier, and tougher than those in the Weld Neck Series B Flanges. Weld Neck Series A Flanges may also withstand higher external loads than Series B Weld Neck Flanges. Flanges in Series A are more expensive than those in Series B. More but smaller fasteners, such as bolts and nuts, are required for Series B flanges. In comparison to Series A Weld Neck Flanges, they normally have a smaller bolt circle radius. Because the bolt circle radius is smaller, there is generally less flange motion after assembly. In raised face type, both Series A and B specify weld neck flanges and blind flanges. However, Series A includes ring-type joint (RTJ) flanges in this specification from Class 300 to Class 900, whereas Series B does not. For new pipeline projects or equipment, Series A Weld Neck Flanges are popular. For maintenance or restoration operations, many people choose for Series B Weld Neck Flanges.
